The fantasy action film debuted at No. 1, with 35.3 million views in just three days of availability. Adam Sandler’s Spaceman also found an audience, rising to No. 2. New additions to the top 10 include Fear, 27 Dresses, and Think Like a Man Too. 10. 27 Dresses (2008)
There is a saying: “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.” Jane Nichols (Katherine Heigl) is the living embodiment of this phrase. Jane has been a bridesmaid 27 times, mainly due to her inability to say “no.” In a perfect world, Jane would marry George (Edward Burns), her boss and unrequited crush. However, the dream plan gets shattered with the arrival of her younger sister, Tess (Malin Akerman), who falls in love with George.
The two quickly get engaged, and to make matters worse, Jane is enlisted to plan her sister’s wedding. This all happens as a reporter named Kevin (Jury Duty‘s James Marsden) gets closer to Jane, hoping to use her unusual bridesmaid story as the subject of his next article.
9. Think Like a Man Too (2014)
Steve Harvey sought to teach women how to figure out men in his book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. The book inspired the feature film Think Like a Man, which grossed nearly $100 million on a $12 million budget. The first film’s success led to the 2014 sequel, Think Like a Man Too. After the events of Think Like a Man, the main couples reunite in Vegas for the wedding of Michael (Terrence J) and Candace (Regina Hall).
Zeke (Romany Malco) can’t escape his flirtatious past with Mya (Meagan Good), Jeremy (Jerry Ferrara) and Kristen (Gabrielle Union) want to have a baby, Bennett (Gary Owen) and Tish (Wendi McLendon-Covey) need to reignite the spark in their marriage, and Dominic (Michael Ealy) and Lauren (Taraji P. Henson) reunite. Finally, Cedric (Lift’s Kevin Hart) needs some time away from Gail (Wendy Williams). Can these couples survive the temptation of Las Vegas?
8. Fear (1996)
Before Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon were A-list stars, they starred in the underrated Fear, a teen version of Fatal Attraction. Sixteen-year-old Nicole Walker (Witherspoon) is the good girl who falls for the mysterious 23-year-old David McCall (Wahlberg). Handsome, polite, and passionate, David seems like a total catch, winning over most of Nicole’s family. The lone holdout in the family is Steven (William Petersen), who is suspicious of David’s intentions with his daughter.
Unfortunately for the Walkers, Steven is right, as David is a vindictive psychopath who won’t stop until he convinces Nicole to take him back. This unhealthy obsession leads David and his criminal friends to invade Nicole’s house, where he doesn’t plan on taking “no” for an answer.
7. Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (2023)
Teenager Ruby Gillman (Lana Condor) wants to fit in with the other humans at Oceanside High School despite secretly being from a family of giant sea monsters known as krakens. Ruby’s overprotective mother bans Ruby from visiting the beach and entering the water. However, Ruby defies her mother and breaks her rules, further straining their relationship.
One day, Ruby sneaks off to meet her grandmother, Grandmamah (Jane Fonda), the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas. Much to her surprise, Ruby learns she is a princess and next in line for the throne after her grandmother. With great power comes great responsibility, as Ruby discovers that the Warrior Queen must protect the ocean from evil mermaids. If Ruby thought high school was hard, wait until she takes on these mermaids.
6. Turbo (2013)
It’s not too often you find a snail that wants to be fast, but that’s exactly what Theo (Ryan Reynolds) wants to be. Theo, who calls himself “Turbo,” dreams of becoming a racer, which makes him an outcast in the snail community. After a freak accident, Turbo’s wish comes true as he now possesses superspeed.
After showing off his powers at a snail race, Tito (Michael Peña) befriends Turbo and agrees to enter him in the Indy 500. Turbo becomes an internet sensation, forcing the Indy 500 to allow the snail to compete. It’s not your typical underdog story, but it’s a heartwarming tale that’s fun for the entire family.
5. Noah (2014)
The Whale’s Darren Aronofsky tackles the biblical tale of Noah’s Ark in Noah. Russell Crowe stars as Noah, the man who dreams of a great flood that will wipe out humanity as punishment for their sins. Not everyone deserves to die, which is why God chose Noah to build an ark to ride out the flood.
On the ark, Noah can take his wife Naameh (Jennifer Connelly), adopted daughter Illa (Emma Watson), and sons Ham (Logan Lerman), Shem (Douglas Booth), and Japeth (Leo McHugh Carroll). The ark can also take the boys’ wives and pairs of animals, with the hope of them breeding after the flood. Building the ark is only the first step. Keeping the sinners away, including Noah’s nemesis, Tubal-cain (Ray Winstone), becomes the bigger challenge.
4. Code 8 Part II (2024)
Connor Reed (Robbie Amell) and Garrett Kelton (Heels’ Stephen Amell) are back for another battle against the corrupt police force in Code 8 Part II. Five years after the events of Code 8, Connor is out of prison and working as a janitor at a community center. Garrett now runs an “ethical” drug empire in Lincoln City. Connor cut his ties to Garrett because of his desire to stay out of trouble.
However, that changes with the arrival of Pav (Sirena Gulamgaus), a young teenager who witnessed a murder at the hands of corrupt police officers and their robotic K9s. Desperate for help, Connor is forced to ask Garrett for help to protect Pav. Can the former allies put aside their differences and work together?
3. The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Thanks to NBCUniversal’s deal with Netflix, one of the biggest titles of 2023 – The Super Mario Bros. Movie – is available to stream. Based on the hit characters from the Nintendo games, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is an origin story for Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day), two Italian-American brothers working as plumbers in Brooklyn, New York.
While fixing a water main leak, the two brothers are sent down the Warp Pipe into two kingdoms. Mario lands in the Mushroom Kingdom with Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), while Luigi appears in the Dark Lands ruled by Bowser (Jack Black). Featuring other notable characters like Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) and Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen), Mario sets out to find Luigi and save the world from Bowser’s reign.
2. Spaceman (2024)
In a rare dramatic role, Adam Sandler plays an astronaut looking to save his marriage in Spaceman. Six months into his mission to Jupiter, Jakub Procházka (Sandler), the Czech Republic’s first astronaut, regrets leaving his wife, Lenka (Carey Mulligan), and unborn daughter.
Lonely and depressed, Jakub finds an unlikely friend in Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano), a spiderlike creature hiding on the ship. Hanuš wants to understand humans better, so he allows Jakub to vent about his marriage while offering advice. Spaceman is a fascinating movie about loneliness, a sci-fi drama that lets Sandler flex his dramatic muscles.
1. Damsel (2024)
As the poster states, “This is not a fairytale.” Mille Bobby Brown is a young woman thrust into the battle for her life in Damsel. Elodie (Brown), a young, respectable woman, agrees to marry Prince Henry (Nick Robinson) from the island of Aurea. After their wedding, Elodie is asked to participate in an ancient ritual on top of the mountains to celebrate their marriage.
However, the meeting is a trap, as Henry throws Elodie into a cave that’s home to a fire-breathing dragon. The wedding was a sham, as Henry’s family needed to sacrifice a woman to repay a debt. Motivated by revenge, Elodie won’t go quietly into the night, fighting to survive and reunite with her family. Clearly, Prince Henry messed with the wrong damsel.
